Child & Family Solutions brings together expertise in Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, and more than 20 years of experience in Special Education to provide practical consultation and support for children, parents, and families.

Family & Parenting Consultation

We help parents better understand the emotional, behavioral, and relationship dynamics affecting their family. This may include parent-child conflict, changes in a child's behavior, parenting challenges, communication difficulties, or situations in which parents simply feel that what they have been trying isn't working.

The goal is to move beyond identifying the problem and develop specific, realistic strategies parents can use at home.

Separation, Divorce & Family Transitions

Separation and divorce affect the entire family system. We work with parents before, during, and after divorce to help them understand and respond to their children's needs while navigating significant changes within the family.

Consultation may address co-parenting, parenting across two homes, children's difficulty with transitions, communication between parents, introducing new partners, changing family roles, and maintaining healthy parent-child relationships during periods of conflict or uncertainty.

Special Education, IEP & 504 Consultation

With dual certification in Mental Health Counseling and Special Education and more than 20 years of experience working in a school setting, we understand the special education process from both the educational and emotional perspectives.We help parents understand evaluations, IEPs, 504 Plans, accommodations and services; review existing educational plans; prepare for Team meetings; identify questions and concerns to raise with the school; and advocate effectively for their child's educational needs.

When You're Not Sure Where to Start

Sometimes the difficulty doesn't fit neatly into one category. A child's anxiety may be affecting school. A divorce may be contributing to behavioral changes. Parents may disagree about how to respond to a child's needs. School difficulties may be creating conflict throughout the family.This is where the combined perspective of counseling, family systems, and special education can be particularly helpful. We can look at the larger picture, identify where the difficulties may be intersecting, and help families determine an appropriate path forward.
